Motor vehicle collisions in the City are up 12% from this time last year

WOODSTOCK -- For the period ending March 31, 2014 the number of reported motor vehicle collisions in Woodstock was 12% higher than the same time period in 2013.  

According to Woodstock Police, this year so far, there have been 255 collisions compared to 227 reported collisions last year.  In 21 of those collisions, 44 injuries were reported compared to only 17 injuries reported in 2013.    

"Driver inattention and carelessness continue to be the leading causes of these preventable collisions," says Woodstock Police Chief Rod Freeman, "Roadway safety is a priority concern for city residents and our officers are committed to holding bad drivers accountable for traffic offences that put the safety of others in jeopardy."   

In the first three months of this year, there were 9 collisions at Peel Street and Wilson Street.  This intersection experienced the highest number of collisions, while Norwich Avenue and Juliana Drive was the second highest with 5 collisions.  Both of these intersections experience a high volume of traffic and are controlled by traffic signals.   

Woodstock Police Service want to remind drivers to drive with due care and attention for others using the roadway.  

They say to plan ahead when you are heading out and to put your phone / texting device away when you are behind the wheel.
