Community Complex to Maintain Ice Pads During State of Emergency

The ice pads at the Woodstock Community Complex will continue to be maintained during the stay-at-home order.

WOODSTOCK - There is still some hope that Woodstock minor hockey will get to finish the season inside the Woodstock Community Complex.

Facility Operations Manager Darren Hall says they have decided to keep the ice pads running.

"Presently we have the two pads and they will remain in for the time being and we are hoping to open back up once the stay at home order is removed. The hope is that once that order is removed that we will be able to continue on and provide the service to our minor organizations, at minimum to what we were doing in the orange tier."

Hall explains why they aren't just shutting down the ice pads now.

"In talking with our minor hockey affiliates, the hope is that if we can open back up in a timely manner, that they can finish their regular season at minimum. If we can open back up in mid February or near the end, they would still have March and maybe into April to finish the season and provide the ice to the kids."

Staff are currently working on a number of cleaning and maintenance projects at the Community Complex. The Complex is closed to the public during the Stay at Home orders. The Civic Centre arena did not open at all this season. The plan is to open it back up in the Fall of 2021.

Woodstock Wildcats, Woodstock Minor Hockey and the Woodstock Skating Club were all using the ice pads at the Community Complex when were in the orange tier.
