A new community garden could be coming to Norwich to help bring the community closer together.
NORWICH - Some people in Norwich are working on creating a Community Garden for the town.
Alisha Stubbs, one of the garden's organizers, believes the Norwich community will really benefit from this garden.
"We are such a small community and it's evolving so there's lots of new faces and people around and so I thought it would be kind of a nice way to get to know people. We've lived here for a long time so I think it's kind of neat to meet new people coming in and also just to learn about how to grow a garden".
The garden will mostly consist of produce and herbs. Stubbs says people have already volunteered to donate some plants, but first they need to figure out where the garden will be located.
"We have a couple of places that we're checking with the township to see if they own the property. We're really trying to put it out there to see if anybody has private property that would be a great place for it. That way we know who owns it and there's access for people to come in and out of it. Also easily accessible, so in town and also large enough so that we can get a garden going there".
If you would like to donate a space for the garden, contact Stubbs by calling 519-532-9771 or e-mail her at alisha.a.gay@gmail.com. Stubbs says another way you can get involved is by joining the Facebook group Community Garden Project.
"Facebook is usually a really good way just because we do have everything there. We had one meeting and so it has all of the notes about what we talked about and kind of next steps and that's where I post any updates. So if we had contacted some people wanting to donate or if people are interested in getting involved that's kind of the contact hub space".
