Canada Day celebrations in Woodstock will not be able to have consumer fireworks.
WOODSTOCK - Another long weekend is upon us in Woodstock.
As many celebrate, they might want to use fireworks. The Woodstock Fire Chief, Jeff Slager has this reminder for all Woodstonians.
"With this coming long weekend, the City of Woodstock would like to remind everybody of the new bylaw that prohibits consumer fireworks from being set off."
Slager adds precious resources would have to be used if a complaint arises regarding consumer fireworks being used.
"We do ask that people respect the bylaw, as our emergency services have to respond to this."
He mentions that people are still able to enjoy a fireworks display, as the City will be putting on a show in Southside Park on Monday. Slager says the fireworks being used for this celebration are display-grade fireworks, which are different from than ones people could buy from a retail store.
Slager says Victoria Day was not that bad, but it could be different this weekend.
"Looking with the weather coming through, again I know the polarizing opinion on the bylaw. We will have some individuals deciding that they might try to set off fireworks."
Slager adds that enforcement officials will be on patrol and citations will be handed out if needed. He mentions with all the costs behind the fine it could set someone back close to $500.
