Oxford County Council approved the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of Highway 59 and Oxford Road 33 earlier this week.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new four-way stop is coming to the Oxford Road 33 and Highway 59 intersection.
With traffic on both roads sharply increasing over the past 5-10 years, residents of Oxford wanted to see a change for the safety of the community. County Council was ready to find a solution to help ease traffic as well.
Public works did an investigation to determine reasons behind why traffic issues have increased in this area specifically. It was decided that the only solution was to change the intersection flow.
The County will be adding stop signs in each direction, as well as flashing lights to warn drivers to slow down when approaching the intersection.
Warden Marcus Ryan says that the idea is to minimize accidents in the area and make the intersection safer for everyone. Although there is no concern about funding for the project, there will be a delay in waiting for new signs and lights to arrive so that they can begin the installation.
