The new traffic calming measures in Beachville include bendable plastic posts on the lanes entering the village and a new Community Safety Zone designation which will allow for increased speeding fines.
BEACHVILLE - Oxford County Council is going to try some new traffic calming measures in Beachville.
Warden Larry Martin says they decided against raising the speed limit again to 60 km/h after listening to the delegations.
"Both delegations last night did not agree with the increase of 50 to 60, but they did think the measures taken to this point have been very good and very productive. They said the speed feedback signs were very helpful as well. I think Councillor Mayberry said it best when he said this is a work in progress and we are trying a variety of different ways to curb speeding in the Beachville community."
Martin says the new measures they're taking include pavement markings and bendable plastic posts on the lanes entering the village to make it more narrow.
"It is a flexible device that sits on the middle line in the summer, it will be gone in the winter time for snow plowing but it gives you an alienation between the two lanes and make the lanes appear that much more narrower so the public will slow down."
The other measures include focused police enforcement; and a new Community Safety Zone designation that will allow for increased speeding fines and potential eligibility for Automated Speed Enforcement in the area (cameras).
