2018 County budget includes about $226-million, with about $60-million of that going towards capital works projects.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County has a capital budget in place for 2018.
Council approved a budget of approximately $226 million at their meeting on Wednesday. About $60 million of that will be used for capital works projects; including roads, bridges, facilities, water and wastewater.
Warden David Mayberry says they decided to dedicate more funds to social housing at the last minute.
"We know we have a big problem needing more social housing or housing available to people that need assistance and so council put an extra $1 million in the budget for that, but with the condition that the million wouldn't come from taxes, but in fact the sale of assets that the county is planning on selling."
Council has also decided to carry the anticipated surplus from this year's budget into next year, giving them an extra $550,000.
The budget does come with a levy of $56 million, but Mayberry says residential land owners should not be worried.
"With the growth that the county has experienced in the last year, people will probably see a slight decrease in their taxes probably in the neighbourhood of about 1 percent, which for a lot of people isn't a lot but it is helpful for most residential."
However Mayberry does add farm land owners might notice an increase in their taxes, due to a boost in farm land value.
