The Green Fleet Plan looks to replace almost half of all County owned gas-powered vehicles with "green" vehicles using alternative fuels or electric power by 2025.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County has cut greenhouse gas emissions by 9.3% between 2014 and 2019 through the Green Fleet Plan.
The County is on pace to surpass the 2025 target of reducing GHG emissions by 14.1% in 2025.
Warden Larry Martin says a key part of the plan to replace gas powered County owned vehicles with "green" vehicles is using alternative fuels or electric power.
"So it's about 47% by the year 2025 that we will have converted over to alternate energy vehicles, we will have some hybrids, some more compressed natural gas for some of the heavier equipment and they are even looking at some of the hydrogens."
Martin says they are going with the five year plan recommended by staff.
"It is 82 different recommendations in there, spread out over 5 years and by 2025 and at the end of 2025, we will have achieved a 4% greater reduction in greenhouse gas admissions than we originally anticipated."
The Green Fleet Plan is part of the ongoing implementation of the County’s 100% Renewable Energy Plan. Key projects undertaken so far to reduce the carbon footprint of fleet operations include introducing a corporate fleet anti-idling policy, fleet rationalization, and replacing gas-powered County vehicles with “green” vehicles run by alternative fuels/electric power.
