The new plan has been labeled as their signature achievement for this council term.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is looking forward to the next steps for the Safe and Well Oxford Plan.
The new plan has been labeled as their signature achievement for this council term. The next steps are expected to focus on mental health, affordable housing, substance misuse and addictions, and equity, diversity and inclusion.
Warden Marcus Ryan explains that the plan has been in the works since 2021.
"It was first brought to the council in late 2021. There was a principal adoption of it by County Council but it didn't get a lot of action [at first]. That was one of my concerns coming into this term of council. There is a lot of potential in this plan, but in my opinion, we haven't really done a lot with it."
Under the Police Service Act municipalities are required to implement community safety plans to maintain sustainable communities.
Ryan says that they hope to improve the community for everyone.
"[We want to] improve the safety and well-being of all of our community members. By defining and addressing priority risks, and then having action teams that are collaborations of the county and municipal services [work together]."
Oxford County Council will be reviewing the plan again at the next council meeting.
