The goal is to bring the price of licensed child care down to an average of $10 per day by September 2025.
OXFORD - Cheap Child Care is coming to the County.
After the most recent Oxford County Council meeting, the Canada Wide Early Learning & Child Care (CWELCC) agreement will bring the price of licensed child care down to an average of $10 per day by September 2025.
Until then, parents and caregivers can expect incremental decreases, starting with a 25% reduction retroactive to April 2022, followed by a 50% decrease to be implemented by the end of December 2022.
This is possible due to the $13-billion budget the Federal and Provincial governments have created for affordable child care.
Warden Larry Martin is hoping this will bring people back to work and in turn, help solve the worker shortage in Oxford County.
"It costs a lot to look after your children and it almost becomes cost-prohibitive to go to work some days. This is to help get people back in the work market and help address some of the shortages we have within Oxford County."
