Oxford County Council has deferred a motion to hire a consultant who would gather information on the 24/7 Shelter Model.
OXFORD COUNTY - The topic of helping the homeless was one of the top priorities at the latest Oxford County Council meeting.
Warden, Marcus Ryan says a motion was put forward to help get a consultant to gather information on the 24/7 Shelter Model.
"Council had a pretty robust debate I would say on it and in the end, I think it was productive. It was slightly frustrating where we decided to defer actually acting on that for a little while."
He adds, that coming up with the best plan is the way to bring the necessary help to the situation.
"What we should be focused on, is how fast we get to actual results for residents, not how fast we start. If we are prepared to allocate more resources to it, we may actually get to the point where we are delivering results to residents sooner."
Council deferred the motion to put out $125,000 for a consultant until another meeting, as they want more of a report, with more ideas put forward.
