Warden Ryan added that there is still a lot of negotiation that's needed between the province and the county before continuing with any plans.
OXFORD COUNTY – Oxford County Council received an update on the Helping Homebuyers, Protecting Tenants Act.
The report highlighted some of the wide-ranging positive changes for the County, but also confusing and concerning changes, like ones that could reduce Oxford’s agricultural land. The changes could also impact how, when, and where the community will be allowed to grow crops.
Warden Marcus Ryan explained what that might mean for the county moving forward with Bill 97.
"There's a potential threat that 5%-10% of the agricultural land in Oxford could be lost to housing development. There's another part that would allow boundaries of settlement areas, so villages as small as Thamesford and cities as large as Woodstock would be allowed to grow without land use justifications."
Warden Ryan added that there is still a lot of negotiation that's needed between the province and the county before continuing with any plans.
