County Council will be getting involved with the proposed landfill at the Beachville quarry. Walker Industries has asked the county to be part of the peer review. The townships of Zorra, Ingersoll, and South-West Oxford have been asked to participate as well. Warden Don McKay says this review will give council a chance to get all of the information they need on the proposal. "Step 1 is to participate in the peer review, so we have a place at the table to ensure that we can review as it's happening, rather than just being a commentor after the fact." McKay says it's critical that the County use its resources to study the issue. "Certainly on an issue as important as a landfill, I want to make sure we have the qualified scientists reviewing and ensuring that the environment, the social, economic issues are being reviewed and don't have a negative impact on Oxford County." Technical issues such as water supply, noise, odour, and traffic will be dealt with during the peer review, which is being paid for by Walker as part of its application.
