Oxford County staff looked through about 240 black garbage bags at the landfill site in order to create the household waste audit for 2021.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is looking to reduce the amount of organic waste going into the landfill.
County Council looked over the household waste audit for 2021 during last week's meeting. Warden Larry Martin says County staff looked through several black garbage bags at the landfill site while creating the report.
"I think there were 240 bags they went through, and 60% of the garbage in the bags was organic. They are trying to get organics out of the landfill."
Martin says a County-wide food and organic waste diversion program is currently in the works.
"We're trying to work through getting organics out of the landfill in order to lengthen the life of the landfill because it takes up space."
