Woodstock Police are asking people to get ahold of the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre if they are contacted by a fraudster claiming to work with the Canada Revenue Agency.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police have received lots of calls about the CRA scam lately.
They received 70 calls from local residents yesterday; saying they had been contacted by a fraudster.
Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says the real Canada Revenue Agency will not threaten you over the phone.
"The Canada Revenue Agency won't call you. Most of the stuff that they do is through paper or income tax time you do things through an accountant or through a legitimate company. The Canada Revenue Agency does not call and threaten people, they don't do warrants for your arrest so all of the things that are happening are not true and accurate."
Thankfully no one fell for it.
VanLeeuwen is asking members of the public to only contact local dispatchers if you have fallen victim.
"We do 911 dispatch for all of Oxford County so 70 calls in a short period of time can interfere with emergency situations."
If you get one of these calls you should contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre.
