"The residents were in the backyard at the time of the fire. They smelled smoke, went in and noticed smoke and flames in the garage. The adult male tried to use an extinguisher with no avail, so 911 was called and we were able to arrive very quickly."
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department responded to the fully engulfed house fire at around 5:50 p.m. yesterday evening. About 15 firefighters were on site and they were able to get the fire under control by 6:40 p.m.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says thankfully, no one was hurt.
"The residents were in the backyard at the time of the fire. They smelled smoke, went in and noticed smoke and flames in the garage. The adult male tried to use an extinguisher with no avail, so 911 was called and we were able to arrive very quickly."
The firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other properties, but Woods says the inside of the home is a complete loss.
"We estimate a dollar value for the home at $750,000 and the contents at $100,000. The homeowners will be displaced for some time."
The home was listed Realtor.ca with a selling price of $783,993.
Woods says investigators will be on site today in order to determine the cause of the fire. She's also reminding everyone to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and to make sure they have an emergency escape plan in place.
