The Woodstock Police Service is looking to educate the community this Crime Prevention Week.
WOODSTOCK - It's Crime Prevention Week nationwide and the Woodstock Police Service have its own special plans.
The theme this year is “Safer. Stronger. Together.” According to Special Constable Shaylyn Jackson, the theme is short for working with community partners to make sure that Woodstock is putting a good foot forward in order to prevent crime.
Jackson says the main goal is to educate the community.
"We're reaching out to the community through social media and engaging that way, as well as we've got some presentations that we've got lined up with the community in order to promote crime prevention, safety, working with your police service. We're here to serve the community and we want to work closely with the community."
She also explained that most of the presentations are specifically for private groups that have requested them. However, if anyone wants their own presentation about crime prevention, Jackson says you can reach out to her directly.
"Some of them are themes on ads, and frauds. That's a pretty popular one right now. If there are any church groups, community groups, etcetera, who are interested in having presentations on property safety, personal safety, frauds and scams, internet safety - any of those types of topics - they can actually reach out to me and I'd be happy to work with them to provide educational presentations."
Property safety is also mentioned often in Woodstock. Things like proper lighting, setting up surveillance systems, and making sure vehicles are locked with no valuables in plain sight are all the sort of tips you can learn on that specific topic.
Crime Prevention Week is a week where the work that officers do every day to keep communities safe can be shared, while also encouraging people to work together.
