An answer has come regarding a Consumption Treatment Site in Woodstock. City Council has voted to not pursue bringing a Site with a Consumption aspect but to look at sites that will focus on treatment and rehabilitation.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has come to a decision regarding a Consumption Treatment Site (CTS).
There was a debate at their meeting last night (Thursday, October 19th) after a motion was put forward by Councillor Mark Schadenberg, asking Council to not support having a CTS come to Woodstock.
Mayor, Jerry Acchione said talks lasted roughly 45 minutes to an hour.
"It was a fairly large debate. Obviously, after our September 26th public meeting, we had a lot of information, and we all walked away with different thoughts and opinions."
He says since that meeting he has had dozens, upon dozens of people contact him with their thoughts, both for and against a CTS.
Acchione adds, how the decision ended up.
"The vote count was 4-3 in favour of saying we are not in favour of a Consumption Site, but we are in favour of investigating more treatment centres, and what that could mean here for the City of Woodstock."
Council’s decision will be circulated to Public Health, the Premier and Ministers of Health and Mental Health and Addictions, as well as local provincial and federal representatives.
Also, in February 2022, the provincial government launched a new Addictions Recovery Fund which included investments to support 396 new addiction treatment beds in Ontario.
Council voted unanimously to request that the Province establish a portion of these treatment beds in the City of Woodstock.
