Oxford County is becoming more bike-friendly. A Cycling Committee has been formed since County Council approved the bicycle chapter of the Transportation Master Plan this past October. Public Health Nurse Lorna Boratto says the committee will be multi-focused. "One is to advise and work with the county in terms of bicycle facilities and supports. What is it the cyclists need to make for a safer cycling environment; what they would like to have. The other thing is to promote cycling and increase it". The committee has representation from County Council as well. Councillor John Lessif looks forward to enhancing the safety aspects of bicycling on rural roads. "I'm hoping I can contribute to bringing it forward into the county and one of the things I am going to do is go to the bike show and see what I can learn". The committee still needs to recruit a few members. It needs representatives from municipalities, the police, members of the cycling community and county departments.
