Dance Raises Funds For Little Boy Living With Cancer

Jacob's Story will be hosting a dance to raise funds for a 7 year old boy with an inoperable brain tumour

WOODSTOCK - The Friendly City is being asked to rally around a 7 year old kid who is battling the effects of cancer.

Xavier Garrett was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour when he was 8 months old. Jacob's Story is hosting a community fundraiser with a dance on November 4th at the Unifor Hall on Beale Street in Woodstock from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Jessica Hagen tells Heart FM they are hoping to raise some funds for the family.

"Both of his parents are not working right now - they both need to be available to take him to appointments and what we want to do is provide a sense of love and support and positively behind this family and we look at the funds as a bonus so that they don't have to worry or have any financial strain."

Xavier's cancer was dormant for 5 years and he started to show symptoms again over a year ago and started radiation treatments. The cancer right now is dormant and Xavier is starting to improve. Mobility is still an issue and he is learning to walk again as he tries to heal from the radiation treatments from a year ago. Xavier attends Algonquin Public School and on top of the treatments is getting counselling with this twin sister. 100 percent of the proceeds from the dance will go towards the family during this trying time.

Hagen says they started Jacob's Story after losing their son to cancer a few years ago and have helped a few local families in that time. She says they are always amazed by the community support.

"It is so amazing when we start to do this work to see the greatness and everybody starts to come out and to see people support a family all for a wonderful cause."

You can also help the family by purchasing t-shirts and bracelets and you can learn more information on the dance and Xavier's story online at jacobsstory.ca.

You can also purchase your tickets for the dance at the door on Friday night.
