You can purchase a gift for a child or a mother staying at DASO over the holidays.
WOODSTOCK - A local Facebook group is looking to brighten the upcoming holiday season for families staying at Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO).
Melissa MacLean is helping organize the DASO Christmas Giving of Hope once again, along side Crystal Tabor.
They have one of the shelter employees ask the kids and mothers what they would like for Christmas. That list is then brought to MacLean and Tabor, also detailing the age and gender of each individual.
MacLean says they share the list online from there.
"We put out a Google sheet on our Facebook page so people can see the list and mark off if they do get a gift so there is not a lot of duplication."
She gives us some examples of some of the wants and needs that might be included.
"Boots, winter coats, socks, underwear, bedding, personal hygiene products, just the essentials that people just need. There's all sorts of things and the kids often will have some toys that they are looking to receive as well."
All gifts have to be purchased by November 30th. From there you can contact MacLean or Tabor to pick them up and bring them back to the Revel Realty office in Woodstock. A gift wrapping ceremony will be held, before the gifts are delivered to DASO during the first week of December.
This is the third year of the DASO Christmas Giving of Hope, and MacLean says it has been a big success in the past.
"It is typically anywhere from 15 to 20 people that we are purchasing for. I would say we have wrapped probably close to 100 gifts every year, so we have been super successful in filling every list."
