Deadline Is Approaching For Election Nominations

If you're thinking about entering your name into the municipal election... you're running out of time.

NORWICH TOWNSHIP - There's still time to enter your name as a candidate for mayor, council or school trustee for the upcoming election.

You have until Friday July 27th at 2 p.m. to file your nomination papers.

Only two potential councillors and one mayoral candidate have submitted their paperwork so far in Norwich Township. CAO Clerk Kyle Kruger is expecting more candidates to step forward in the next couple of days.

"We have had a few more packages that have been picked up so there are people who have expressed some interest and gone to that step. With the forms made available online there may be more folks out there contemplating it. Certainly at this point it's a little bit slow for us but we expect that will pick up in the next week."

Kruger says a lot of municipalities may receive last minute entries next week.

"It appears to me that it's not unusual for Norwich; it seems to be throughout Oxford County at this point that nominations are a little slow coming in. We expect that might be the case with the provincial election having ended not that long ago that individuals might wait a little while after that election."

You have to be an adult Canadian citizen that's a resident, owner or tenant of land in the municipality you wish to run in. You can also be the spouse of a resident, owner or tenant.

Candidates have to secure 25 nomination signatures from qualified voters as well.
