Delays For Air Quality Data

The Ministry of Environment told MPP Ernie Hardeman in order to get the remaining documents concerning the Beachville air quality reports it would cost the taxpayers.

OXFORD COUNTY - Local residents concerned about their air quality are going to have to pay up in order to see the documentation. This comes after local MPP Ernie Hardeman took to the Ontario Legislature again this week to ask for the air quality monitoring data for Beachville.

Hardeman made the request back in July but has since only received six months worth of data covering August 2013 through January 2014.

When he asked the Minister of Environment for an update this week, he was told that data could be obtained through the formal Freedom of Information process which comes with a fee. Hardeman noted residents should not have to pay for the documents and should be refunded any FOI fees. Hardeman pointed out that while the Liberals claim to be open and transparent, local residents are still being refused information about the quality of the air they breathe.

The Minister has agreed to look into the matter and provide a prompt response.
