A man from Ingersoll is hoping a dog owner will come forward so he can avoid getting a series of rabies shots.
INGERSOLL - Oxford County Public Health are investigating a dog biting incident in Ingersoll.
The bite happened on Monday morning at the corner of David and Harris street. County officials say a man was bitten by a dog being walked by a woman in her mid-40's to early 50's. The dog is being described as an Australian Sheppard or Border Collie with mixed colouring of grey, white and brown.
Officials are hoping to speak with the dog owner to see if the dog has all of the proper shots in order to prevent rabies treatment for the man. The woman was also walking a large poodle that was off white in colour.
Public Health is asking the dog owner, or anyone else with information, to please contact Public Health Inspector Joshua Standel at 519-539-9800, extension 3482.
"Remember, rabies is a fatal disease. Dog bites should be reported to Public Health to confirm animal vaccinations are up to date. If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention and call Public Health at 519-539-9800, ext. 3410 or 1-800-755-0394."
