Don't Leave Your Pet in a Cold Vehicle

OPP recently responded to a report of a dog being left inside a cold vehicle.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford OPP are reminding everyone to leave the pets at home when you are running errands.

They recently responded to a complaint about a dog left inside a cold vehicle.

Constable Ed Sanchuk says if it's too cold for you, it is too cold for your pet.

"If you own or are caring for companion animals, you need to take extra precautions to protect them from the extreme cold. The best place for your pet is inside, except when you take them outside for exercise or if it is a breed of dog capable of surviving outdoor weather. Even long-haired dogs that are accustomed to being outside need extra precautions when the temperature plummets."

Sanchuk says cars hold in the cold acting like a refrigerator, which could cause your pet to freeze to death.

You can face severe penalties for neglecting an animal, including long prison sentences if the pet dies.
