A person in Norfolk County was fined $125 for smoking with two young children in the back of the car.
NORFOLK COUNTY - OPP are reminding parents and caregivers that it is illegal to smoke in your vehicle with someone under the age of 16 present.
Police handed out a ticket on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk County to a driver who was smoking with two small children in the back.
Effective January 21, 2009, Ontarian's cannot smoke in motor vehicles with passengers under 16. Under the law, a driver or passenger smoking in a motor vehicle, while someone else under the age of 16 is present, is committing an offence, and can be fined $125.
OPP Detachment Commander Joseph Varga says second-hand smoke in motor vehicles can be up to 27 times more concentrated than in a smoker's home
"Drivers often take extra care to protect children in vehicles; having smoke-free cars should be part of that protection."
