Oxford County Emergency Shelters Update

Warden Marcus Ryan says they have made progress, although they want to see more.

OXFORD COUNTY - County Council received an update on 24/7 Emergency Shelter Services in Oxford.

In November 2021, staff were directed to explore options in the county for how to support round the clock shelters in the community.

Warden Marcus Ryan says they have made progress, although they want to see more.

"Great progress, but unfortunately not enough. We just need to keep pushing on this to make sure people have a safe place to be."

The Warden added that we all have a duty to help those in need.

"There's a moral imperative, I think, to make sure people have shelter. But even if you put that aside there's a tremendous cost to us as a society for people not having a home."

Through provincial funding support shelter services began being phased in between January and October of 2022, in partnership with Operation Sharing.
