Southwest Oxford wins Energy Conservation Award
Southwest Oxford is leading the way in energy conservation for municipalities of 50 thousand or less.
The Oxford County municipality took home the Ontario Power Authority, Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Electricity Distributors Association Community Conservation Award earlier this month.
Mayor David Mayberry tells Heart FM some of the conservation initiatives they have undertaken.
"We did the LED street lights which reduced the consumption of energy in all of our street lights by, I think the number is 53%. We've also looked at our vehicles and said how can be buy more efficient vehicles, that sort of thing. We've done an audit on almost all of the buildings the township owns, an energy audit, looking for ways to improve."
