Oxford County tourism is picking up with 44% of visitors coming from afar during Big Cheese Days and more cyclists getting in gear.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford Tourism is encouraging people to try a bit of a 'stay-cation' this year and discover what the county has to offer.
Tourism Specialist Meredith Maywood tells Heart FM they have gotten a lot of great feedback on the Cheese Trail.
"We just held our first Big Cheese Days event back in May and we had 44% of the visitors that came out for the trail that day actually travelled over 45 minutes."
Another major element includes making Oxford County more friendly for cyclists. Maywood tells Heart FM promoting cycling has been a collaborative effort.
"Local cycling groups, committees, people passionate about cycling, and local tourism businesses coming together letting people know that we are a bike friendly community and they can come out and ride in the county. We actually were the cover image this year for cycling in Ontario." Ingersoll is currently in the midst of Bike Month featuring many different events hosted by the Ingersoll Safe Cycling Committee.
In addition to all of this Maywood adds they are focused on highlighting local businesses.
"Our main priorities right now are focusing on culinary tourism including the Cheese Trail and then touring. So that's people getting out and visiting a variety of communities, events, retailers, restaurants throughout Oxford whether they are travelling by car, bike or motor bike."
