Environment Canada Calling for Snow in Oxford County

Environment Canada is predicting about 10 centimetres of snow for tonight starting at about 8:00 p.m.

OXFORD COUNTY - We're in for another blast of winter here in Oxford County.

Environment Canada is predicting about 10 centimetres of snow for tonight.

Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder says it should start with a mix of snow and rain at around 8:00 p.m. but the snow will take over as the temperature starts to drop.

"The heaviest is expected to start late overnight into early morning and then continue through the morning rush hour tomorrow. Anybody who needs to be out on the roads in the morning, it's best if you can give yourself some extra time and leave some space between cars. If you can avoid the roads that's even better."

Flisfeder says it's not uncommon to see snow around this time of the year, but not to this extent.

"Certainly we have seen, at least in the past few years, there have been a few instances of snow falling. It is a little more rare to have accumulating snow certainly near the 10 centimetre range. It's a little more out of the ordinary."

We're in for more seasonal temperatures after the storm, so the snow will probably melt away before the weekend. Flisfeder says it's unlikely we'll see another snow event to this extent over the next few weeks, but it's not impossible.
