Extended Hours

County Library Board plan to resume Sunday hours at two locations following a trial run say increased numbers.

OXFORD COUNTY - As the County of Oxford wraps up their trials for Sunday library hours in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll, it appears overall, it was embraced by the community.

Back in March the Library Board opened up the branches Sundays on a trial basis which wrapped up June 15.

CEO and Chief Librarian for the County, Lisa Miettinen says staff saw many families that were new to the library come in on Sundays.

"We were pleased with usage. Circulation of materials was very strong. There was heavy use of the computers during those open hours and we were pleased to see many families enjoying spending some relaxing time in the library reading to their kids while using the computers."

Miettinen says feedback from families has been positive.

"We did see steady circulation and attendance. On average there was anywhere from 80-100 people using the libraries during those three hours and the circulation was slightly above average on a per hour basis."

Miettinen says the Library Board reviewed the Sunday program earlier this month.

"In October we are going to resume, so the month of October, November and then through to the middle of December we will be offering Sunday hours in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg."

Miettinen says as the weather has gotten nicer they have seen attendance dwindle, that's why they are holding off on offering summer hours at this point.
