Someone tried to extort a Norfolk man after an intimate video chat on Instagram.
NORFOLK COUNTY - OPP are warning the public to be cautious when interacting with someone online.
Police were called after a local man got into a video chat with someone on Instagram. Once the video ended, the victim began to receive several text messages from the same person claiming that they were in possession of naked photos and a video of the victim and demanded to be paid $800 so they would not share them with the victim's family and friends on social media. No funds were sent and police were immediately contacted.
Police are warning all computer users to beware. We live in a connected world where it's easy to feel as if our far-away friends are right next door. Having a face-to-face conversation with someone is gaining in popularity and everyone needs to be vigilant when engaging in on-line video chats.
