Canadian Cancer Society asking you to face your fears
WOODSTOCK - The Canadian Cancer Society is asking locals to face their fears to help those living with cancer do the same.
Oxford County Branch Fundraising Coordinator Tracy Bucholtz says it's part of the new Fearless Challenge.
"There's three steps to take part in this fundraiser. They start by filming a short video stating their fears and how they'd like to overcome it and for how much. They then register at fearlesschallenge.com and then they ask their friends and family for donations. Once they have reached their fundraising they upload a video of themselves facing their fear."
"When someone's diagnosed with cancer, we know that one of the most prevalent emotions they face is fear as soon as they have been handed their diagnosis so the Fearless Challenge is inviting people to -- in a way-- experience that same fear and let people living with cancer know that they are not alone."
Oxford Branch Manager Jan Cunningham says celebrities have already said they would take up the challenge.
"From Oxford County, actor Kevin Zegers is going to be facing his fear by sumo wrestling so we are looking forward to that coming to light in the near future."
Money raised through the Fearless Challenge will fund more life-saving cancer research and help patients and their families through support services.
