The Federal Government is working to have less people on Employment Insurance. It's their latest initiative introduced in the Economic Action Plan. Oxford MP Dave MacKenzie says it's a matter of matching the unemployed with available jobs. "It isn't that we don't have people that don't have those skills, we just aren't able to necessarily match them together. The initiative right now is to try and fit those people with the jobs that are available, recognizing that people don't have to move, they don't have to drive three hundred miles to take a job. It's some common sense things". The initiative includes a Job Alerts system that will notify job seekers of new opportunities. It will take into consideration the suitability of the job for each person. That includes childcare and transportation costs, as well as if the job can be maintained.
