The OPP has launched its Festive RIDE campaign in hopes of targeting impaired drivers in Oxford and beyond.
OXFORD COUNTY - Drivers will be seeing an increased police presence on the road this holiday season.
Media Relations Officer with Oxford OPP, Patti Cote explains.
"The Festive RIDE, which is Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere campaign is an annual Police enforcement initiative actually, taking impaired drivers off our roads during the holiday season."
Cote speaks to what people could face if caught.
"Right off the bat, there is a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspensions that are potential. There are fines, there's obviously the charges involved, which could be operation while impaired."
Impaired deaths on the road are a big target for the campaign. A total of 23 deaths have been reported on OPP West Region patrolled roads so far this year and Cote confirms one of them was in Oxford County.
Cote says the campaign is currently underway and will run until January 1st.
