The Thames Valley District School Board has not heard from about 22 percent of parents and guardians on their plans for September. You have until the end of the day today, to let the school board know if your child is returning to class.
OXFORD COUNTY - Parents and guardians with kids in the Thames Valley District School Board have until the end of the day (Tuesday August 18th) to confirm if their children will be doing in class learning or full remote learning at home in September.
As of noon Monday August 17, the Board had received responses for more than 63,500 of Thames Valley’s 82,000 students, a response rate of about 78 per cent. Of those, about 8,200 students are confirmed for full remote learning at home.
Education Director Mark Fisher says Thames Valley is excited to welcome students back to school and preparations are underway to ensure a safe and welcoming experience.
“Our plans have been shared with the Ministry of Education and local public health units and they are supportive of our comprehensive and multi-pronged approach. We need the support of parents and guardians to complete the survey so that we can ensure adequate teaching staff and classroom space are in place when schools reopen.”
Separate entries must be completed for each registered student on the Parent Portal: www.tvdsb.ca/parentportal.
Requests for changes after the deadline will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. In addition, opportunities will be provided on certain dates for parents and guardians to change their decision with advanced notification.
Elementary students will be permitted to change models on November 2, 2020 (with advanced notification by October 16, 2020) and February 8, 2021 (with advanced notification by January 22, 2021). These dates align with the Ontario Elementary Reporting Periods.
Secondary students will be permitted to change models on February 4, 2021 (with advanced notification by January 15, 2021). These dates were determined to align with the Ontario Secondary Reporting Periods (end of Semester 1).
Parents and guardians who wish their children to participate in full remote learning will be asked additional information about access to the Internet and availability of necessary technology devices.
Parents and guardians can learn more at www.tvdsb.ca/returntolearn. For questions about the Parent Portal, please contact Thames Valley’s technical support team at 519-452-2005 or servicesupport@tvdsb.ca.
