The Town of Tillsonburg made the announcement on Facebook yesterday.
TILLSONBURG - The flags are flying at half mast at all Town of Tillsonburg facilities today.
They will stay that way for 9 days and 215 horus. Mayor Stephen Molnar says this is in recognition of the 215 children discovered in a mass grave at the former Kamloops Indian
Residential School.
"Our hearts are with the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, and all Indigenous Peoples in Canada at this sad time. We remember too, the survivors who continue to be impacted by their experiences in residential schools."
Molnar says the decision to lower the flags was announced on the Town of Tillsonburg’s Facebook page yesterday.
The history of Canada’s Indigenous children cannot be dismissed. This is a moment to listen and learn, and stand in solidarity with the families and communities affected."
Educational resources are available through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation website (www.nctr.ca).
The telephone number for the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line is 1-866-925-4419.
