Conservation Authorities across the entire region are warning about the potential for flooding this week.

WOODSTOCK - Flood Warnings have been issued across the region today with the combination of more rain and the snow melt.

Manager of Community and Corporate Services with The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Teresa Hollingsworth.

"So what's happening is all that snow across the watershed starts to melt and at the same time we have rain falling. We have had about 20 mm of rain over the last 24 hours and we are expecting another 20 to 40 mm to fall, so we are expecting localized flooding in certain areas."

She adds the water is still really cold, fast moving and very dangerous.

"It really is a safety message, trying to remind people that the water is really cold, really fast flowing, we are trying to keep all children and pets away from all watercourses, even a stream or a creek is going to be running really high, it is really important for people to stay away from any kind of watercourse."

In the past, similar combinations of rain and melting snow have caused flooding in the following areas:

-0 City of Woodstock: Thames River at Highway 2; Cedar Creek at Southside Park

- Thames Centre: Village of Putnam south of Highway 401; Reynolds Creek - Golden Pond Trailer Park

- East Zorra -Tavistock: Braemar Trailer Park

- Zorra: Ponderosa Trailer Park

- West Perth: Motherwell area.

- City of Stratford: Dolan Drive; Avon Cemetery; Stratford Golf and Country Club

- Town of St. Mary's: Thomas Street between Park and Queen Streets; Parkview Drive; St. Mary's Golf & Country Club

Both the Long Point Region Conservation Authority and Grand River Conservation Authority have issued flood warnings across their entire regions.
