A flood warning remains in place for the Village of Ayr as the Nith river is expected to peak later tonight.
AYR/BRANTFORD - A Flood Warning has been issued for the Southern Grand River Watershed.
The Nith River through Ayr is expected to peak late Wednesday afternoon/early evening while the lower Nith River will peak Wednesday night.
Flows through the community of Ayr on the Nith River are expected to peak below Warning Zone 1.
River flows reached their peak in the Grand River through Brantford around 8:00 pm Tuesday night.
Southern Grand River Downstream of Brantford: River ice is still present in the southern river. Potential for ice jams and flooding is possible in low lying areas that are typically prone to flooding. These areas include River Drive (south of Caledonia), Sims Lock Road, Grand Sports Road, Town of Cayuga and community of Port Maitland. Haldimand flood co-ordinators are asked to monitor these locations through Wednesday evening. If the ice sheet upstream of Caledonia dam releases, ice jam flooding could result in these areas.
The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution around all water bodies. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery at this time and, when combined with current weather conditions, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses and off frozen water bodies, which will be weakened as a result of the warming trend.
