Southwestern Health is warning Oxford County residents of lower fluoride levels in their water.
OXFORD COUNTY - The levels of sodium and fluoride in your drinking water could be off point says Southwestern Health.
The natural mineralization in the county's drinking water has sprouted some health concerns. Children 7 years old or under could be at risk for some health concerns regarding their teeth. This is because their teeth are still developing. Environmental Health Manager, Amy Pavletic at Southwestern Health has more information.
"There's the potential for health effects when your looking at higher levels of sodium, for example when someone is on a sodium based diet and drinking water from our municipal system and their not aware of the levels then they could be taking in the sodium levels that go above what they doctor may have told them to go."
Pavletic explains some health effects.
"The effects of fluoriosis are multing, or marks in the teeth, discolouration and while its cosmetic its still damage people don't want on their teeth."
The reports of high fluoride levels have been from Brownsville, Ingersoll, Lakeside, Springford and Tillsonburg. And reports of high sodium content have came up in Bright, Brownsville, Embro, Ingersoll, Norwich, Otterville, Springford, Thamesford, Tillsonburg and Woodstock.
Southwestern Health will continue to monitor the problem and reports.
