Dr. Joyce Lock believes we could have a decent summer this year if people follow public health guidelines this long weekend.
OXFORD/ELGIN/ST.THOMAS - Southwestern Public Health is urging everyone to continue to follow public health guidelines with the long weekend coming up.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says she understands people are feeling the urge to break the rules a little bit.
"I can see that and I must say, that I myself am tempted at times to try and break the rules, but no, we must stick with it. I think the good news is if you look at our local epi curve, we have not only flattened it, but we are on a relatively good downhill slant. Similarly, if you look at the Provincial epicurve, it has a nice steep downhill slant at the moment.
Lock says if we can just get through the next couple of weeks, we are poised to have a decent summer.
"I think we can all be cautiously optimistic that if the trend carries on, if we just hang in there a little bit longer, that between the numbers coming down for cases and the percentages going up for those who received one dose of vaccine, that hopefully we will be out and about and enjoying things as the weather gets warmer."
Dr. Lock says we are seeing positive trends with daily case numbers below 2,000 and with hospitals allowed to resume non emergent surgeries.
