London's Mayor, caught up in a government cheque scandal, says he won't be making any more public comments on the case, for now. Joe Fontana has hired well-known London Lawyer Gord Cudmore to handle the case. The London Free Press accuses Fontana of using federally issued cheques to pay for his son's wedding in 2005. LFP says it has a sub from one of the cheques, for $1700, paid as a deposit for the wedding reception at London's Marconi Club. And, the London paper says around $20,000 was paid to the Club from cheques issued by Public Works Canada. At the time, Fontana was a London MP and federal Labour Minister. In a statement this morning, Fontana indicates he will not be making any further public comment on the issue until the RCMP have investigated. In the meantime, Fontana will continue to perform his public duties as London's Mayor.
