Sobey's in Woodstock and Foodland in Ingersoll and Woodstock are doing the quarter matching program right now for Food for Friends.
WOODSTOCK - The Foodland stores in Ingersoll and Woodstock and the Sobey's in Woodstock are getting into the Festive Spirit.
They are doing the quarter matching program for Operation Sharing's Food for Friends right now. Owner of the Woodstock Chris Chapman says the campaign will run until Christmas Eve.
"We have run it on Thanksgiving in the past and this year we decided to give it a try at Christmas and just see how much we can boost the coiffeurs of Operation Sharing's Food for Friends Program, leading up to this very sensitive time of year for them."
So for every quarter you donate to Food for Friends, the grocery stores will match it.
"We started this matching program several years ago where we will match any donation by customers made at the till, so if a customer donates a quarter, we will boost that to 50 cents and double their donation."
Chapman explains why they keep supporting this amazing program year after year.
"The Food for Friends Program is a locally developed program that I think is wonderful. It treats those in our community that need a little bit of extra help, it treats them with dignity, it allows them to come in and make their own food choices. They don't have to go to a food bank and take a dented can of tuna that someone has cleaned out of their cupboard, they are able to come in and be treated like any other customer. It is important this time of year and it is important throughout the year."
