Premier Doug Ford asked the Prime Minister to keep the border to the US closed. He also had a favour to ask of young people heading back to college and university next month.
ONTARIO - The Ontario Premier is hoping the border with the US will stay closed.
He shared a chart today comparing the number of active COVID-19 cases in Ontario with some of our neighbours to the South and Quebec.
"You can see where we are at 284 cases per 100,000 people, the next closest is Quebec at 726 and then it's just up with our neighbours starting in Michigan. I love our American friends, I really do, I spend a lot of time down there, this is the reason Mr. Prime Minister why we can't open the borders, it's very simple."
Ford says the people of Ontario have been amazing during the pandemic.
"I want to thank the people of this great province, nothing to do with the Government, all we do is just keep working away, without the people following the guidelines and the protocols and the great front line health care workers and the essential service workers, be it the grocery store clerks and the truck drivers, so on, so forth, this wouldn't happen, it just wouldn't be there."
Ford also has a message for young people.
"When you are going back to college or university, I know the first few weeks is just party, party, party, guys do me a favour, no partying, just do me that one favour, that's all I ask. Hang in there, you are going to have later in the summer to party all you want but please don't go to school and start having wild parties."
