Franco-Ontarian Flag Rises in Museum Square

Museum Square was flooded with green and white Tuesday morning. It was for Franco-Ontarian Day. The Franco-Ontarian Flag was raised in place of the City of Woodstock flag. It's half green and half white: the green represents the summer months, while the white represents the winter months. Students from Ecole Notre Dame and Ecole Sainte Marguerite-Bourgeoys dressed in the two colours to show their support. Principal Nicole Plante-Cooper says Franco-Ontarians have been growing especially in Woodstock. "When kids are enrolled at our school they become Franco-Ontarians by law. And this year is the first year that we actually get to celebrate this in the centre of our community in Museum Square. It's absolutely incredible that Mayor Pat Sobeski and Councilor Ron Fraser decided to allow us to share this day with our community," said Plante-Cooper. Student's Council Vice President Briana agrees that this was an important step for their community: "It shows that we're really proud of our roots and that we're glad that we can do this now, because forty years ago we couldn't speak French." Over 450 students gathered to watch the ceremony.
