UPDATE: Freedom Convoy to Pass Through Southwestern Ontario Today

Get ready Oxford County, because the freedom convoy will be rolling through Oxford County Thursday morning.

UPDATE 4: We are actively trying to track the freedom convoy at this time. We have been able to confirm that it has not passed the Flying J truck stop and yet and we noticed some traffic delays on the eastbound 401 in the Chatham area as of 10:45 a.m.

We will continue to do our best to track the convoy and you can read more online here.

---

UPDATE 3: The Canada Unity representative for Ontario Western has confirmed that they are experiencing hacking issues with their website. He is expecting the convoy to pass through the London, Woodstock, Drumbo area sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. possibly even sooner.

---

UPDATE 2: The Canada Unity website has updated the convoy times once again. It now says the convoy should arrive in London at 9:30 a.m. and roll past the Drumbo Shell station at 10:00 a.m.

---

UPDATE 1: The convoy times have officially changed on the Canada Unity web site. They will now be departing London around 11:00 am. The group is no longer planning to stop in Drumbo, but will do a rolling stop to allow others to join the convoy.

Heart FM had previously reached out to volunteer coordinator Tim Corderre, who said the only times to watch for our the ones on the Canada Unity site. He said that people may have been purposely trying to put out misinformation. That said those times have now changed on the web site.

---

They have two groups leaving from Windsor and Sarnia that will meet at the 401 in London tomorrow. The rally convoy started in B.C on the weekend and has been rolling through western Canada all week. Yesterday the truckers were greeted with hundreds of supporters when they arrived in Winnipeg.

You can expect major delays throughout the day on the E/B lanes of the 401.

They also felt the support in Regina on Monday night, where around 1200 trucks rolled through town and then were greeted by Conservative M-Ps Andrew Scheer and Warren Steinley. Several members of the Conservative party have tied themselves to the protest, including the representative for Bow Rive in Alberta.

The freedom convoy initially started out as a protest against the vaccine mandates for truck drivers to come into Canada from the United States. It has evolved and is now a protest over all of the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place. Locally people online have stated they will be lining the overpasses in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Ayr to cheer on the truck drivers as they drive by. The convoy will be stopping at the Drumbo truck stop at 10 am to refuel and re-group before they head to K/W and then Toronto. The trucks will finally stop in Kingston at 5:00 pm Thursday night.

This is all leading towards a massive protest at Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Saturday. Organizers are adament this protest will be peaceful, however some of the chatter online suggests it might not be.

This protest is also happening during the 5th wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to more deaths and more people hospitalized than any other wave by a large margin.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance disapproves of the convoy and you can read the full statement below:

"The vast majority of the Canadian trucking industry is vaccinated with the overall industry vaccination rate among truck drivers closely mirroring that of the general public. Accordingly, most of our nation’s hard-working truck drivers are continuing to move cross-border and domestic freight to ensure our economy continues to function.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) does not support and strongly disapproves of any protests on public roadways, highways, and bridges. CTA believes such actions – especially those that interfere with public safety are not how disagreements with government policies should be expressed. Members of the trucking industry who want to publicly express displeasure over government policies can choose to hold an organized, lawful event on Parliament Hill or contact their local MP. What is not acceptable is disrupting the motoring public on highways and commerce at the border.

The Government of Canada and the United States have now made being vaccinated a requirement to cross the border. This regulation is not changing so, as an industry, we must adapt and comply with this mandate,” said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. “The only way to cross the border, in a commercial truck or any other vehicle, is to get vaccinated."
