A pair of storm systems look to bring icy weather to the region
The first of two storm systems is on the way into our region tonight.
Freezing rain warnings have been issued for Huron-Perth, Kitchener-Waterloo and the Hamilton-Toronto area as the system approaches.
For Oxford County, and areas south of the warnings, Environment Canada Meteorologist Marie-Eve Giguere says we could see freezing precipitation tonight. "You're just on the southern edge of it. So for the City of Woodstock, London, at this point it looks like rain, and maybe little periods of freezing rain."
But for those planning on travelling up to Stratford, or Kitchener, you could encounter icy road conditions.
A second system coming up from Texas will have more moisture, fueled by the Gulf of Mexico that could bring southern Ontario prolonged periods of freezing rain and ice pellets on Saturday and Sunday.
Giguere says they're watching that storm system closely to see where it will track, and more weather advisories will be issued as the system approaches.
The heaviest precip is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning. Officials warn that prolonged periods of freezing rain could lead to power outages and treacherous driving.
Keep tuned to Heart FM into the weekend for the lastest updates on the system.
