WOOODSTOCK - The Women's Resource Development Centre is hosting a charity Garage Sale on Saturday.
Heather Bree Davies says they provide employment support to women in Oxford County.
"We serve any women or anyone who identifies in Oxford County as a woman. Our clients include women who have no sources income at all or limited income. They might be underemployed, they may be employed full time or part time, they may be looking for work, they may be looking for education options. Any woman who comes into the Women's Employment Support Centre, we provide employment support."
They will be selling items from 8 am to 1 pm at their location on 104 Park Row in Woodstock. If anyone has donations for the sale they can contact Deb Smith at 519 537-7656. The WERC also accepts food donations, gas and groceries gift card and cash donations. They are a charitable organization so they can issue tax receipts.
Many people believe that WERC just helps women with resumes and cover letters. However they do so much more.
WERC provides front line Employment Services for those who identify as women in Oxford County. They offer assistance with:
- Resumes / Cover Letters
- Interview Skills
- Employment Skills Workshops
- Career Assessment
- Second Career or Educational research
- Financial incentives for employers
- Client Supports (assisting clients with costs of certifications, licenses, CRC, Clothing, transportation, education requirements, GED testing)
- GED prep and literacy skills on site through TVDSB
- Food Security and personal hygiene products
- Work Boots / Safety glasses
- Clothing and Interview Clothing
- Computer access
WERC has a Holistic approach to employment services in identifying multiple barriers that include:
- Lack of Childcare or Eldercare, transportation and/or housing
- No source of income,
- Food security,
- Criminal record,
- Disabilities,
- Age,
- Addictions,
- Mental health, physical health,
- Legal issues,
- History of abuse, trauma,
- Grief,
- Lack of confidence, low self-esteem,
- Children with disabilities,
- Limited employment experience,
- Lack of skills required for current labour market,
- Job retention issues
- And more recently, victims of human trafficking
