Generic Form of OxyContin on the Way

The federal government is rejecting provincial appeals to delay or deny approval of the generic form of the pain drug, OxyContin. It is widely abused in many small towns and First Nations reserves, and has been a serious issue here in Oxford County. Some provinces fear the addiction problems will surge once generic oxycodone becomes available. But Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq says drugs are approved or rejected on a scientific basis, and no health minister should be politicizing the process. Her announcement paves the way for federal approval of the generic opiate after November 25th.
