Residents are getting fraudulent calls from people claiming to work for financial institutions.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a phone scam making the rounds in the Friendly City.
Scammers are claiming they work for a bank, telling their victims to stay on the phone while they go purchase gift cards and provide the caller with the codes on the gift cards.
The scammers will threaten and manipulate their victims. They will keep their victims on the phone, trying to dissuade any doubts the victim may have. They will encourage you to go to multiple stores to make the gift card purchases to avoid raising suspicions from store employees.
Please note that banking, financial, police and government organizations do not ask or threaten you to pay debts with gift cards.
